2-how close is your beach?
we are on a cliff with steps down to
the beach-there are beaches all around
each with their own personality-Our beach is called KIKITA BEACH
3-is your area safe?
we have owned our home for over 3
years & never had a problem-of course
anywhere you go you should use
common sense & not flash money or
wear expensive jewelry-
4-what should we bring?
we pretty much have everything in our
home to make your stay comfortable-
don't overpack as we have a washer &
dryer for you to use-
5-should I bring dress clothes?
maybe one set not too fancy-there is
some nightlife at the casino at cerromar
10 minutes away-men do not need a
jacket-
6-should I bring a cell phone?
yes-check with your server to make
sure it works in puerto rico-most do-
we have a phone for incoming & local
calls-bring a phone card for long
distance calls please-
7-can I bring my laptop?
yes, we have free internet in both units-
8-are there restaurants close by?
in dorado there are lots of restaurants
close by-some casual & some fancy-
we have a ponderosa, pizza hut, subway,
burger king, taco bell, mc donalds-we
have italian, mexican, chinese, argentina,
rib joint, open air dining, a fish place-
they are all about a 5 minute drive
away-we have beautiful expensive
dining in the 3 hotels in town-
9-are there grocery stores close?
we have 2 large major ones within a
5-10 minute drive-the prices & the
products are the same as what you
are used to-Its american
money-
10-anything strange we may encounter?
in puerto rico its a different culture-
people speak spanish but most people
also speak english-if they don't they
can always get someone who does-
expect to be treated well-puerto ricans
are very warm & kind-if you smile at
them they will always smile back-you
will see roosters, people on horseback,
beautiful homes, junky homes, dogs
running loose-since bugs never die
here because its so warm a climate,
you will see bugs-our managers spray
our home all the time plus before you
arrive so you shouldn't see any in our
home-but you never know-you will see
lots of sunshine hopefully-it rains a little
everyday-enough to keep things green
& lush-
11-how are the roads?
mostly highways-all well marked-there are a lot of toll roads-
if you encounter one, the price will be
posted well before you get to it-if you
need change go to the booth with the
c over it-
12-how do puerto ricans drive?
when we first started coming 20 years
ago it was scary as you never saw a
police car & no one got a ticket-now
you see lots of police cars & the people
are driving much better-use your seat
belt as they are strict on this matter-
13-what is the weather like?
85 degrees every day-evening about
75 degrees-just like hawaii-with us
being on the ocean you get the trade
winds that keep it cooler & the flying
bugs away-most of the time you do
not need the air conditioner its so nice-
14-do you have beach stuff?
we have towels & some beach stuff-if
if you need anything you can get it at
walgreens at reasonable prices-
15-do you have a big shopping center?
plaza americas (200 stores plus macy's)
& costco are about 15 minutes away-
we have different outlet malls just like
in the states-my information book in our
home covers where they are-
16-is there snorkling around?
our beach area has reefs but its
sometimes rough-there are calmer
beaches all around-there is a surfing
beach one block west-fun to watch-
17-is there things to do in puerto rico?
puerto rico is considered the most
interesting of all the caribbean-some
islands are really boring with nothing
to do-not in puerto rico-many tourist
attractions such as the caves, rain
forest, old san juan, the mountains,
bacardi rum factory, bio bays, world
class golfing, casino action, island
hopping, whale watching-you will not
be bored-we are very centrally located
to all these sites also-you can get free
books (ask for the "que pasa" & the
travel planner "go to puerto rico") by
calling 1-800-2236530 & 1-800-
8667827-
18-do I need a rental car?
yes-to stay at our home you do-plus
you would have lots more fun-get an
entertainment book for discount
car rental coupons.- Also try
www.sidestep.com
for a car at very reasonable
prices. -People who stay
at the hotels look very bored without
a car-these are people with nothing
to do-you don't want that-there are too
many places to see & do-at the local
restaurants you can get a meal as
reasonable as $10-at the hotels expect
to pay at least $20-also at the hotels
the drinks are about $8-
19-can you burn easy?
yes, there is lots of sun in the tropics-
bring sunscreen-also if you plan on
going to the beach at dusk, bring
bug spray-lots of "no-seeums"
20-why are you so reasonable? every
other home I see is priced a lot more
than you----
well we don't want our home to sit
vacant-we priced it to rent out-the
price you pay just covers are expenses-
we are not in a resort plus we are not
perfect-you may find some dirt-our
managers try hard but can't keep the
dust out (blown in from the ocean)-
also the ocean salt air deteriorates
things quickly & everything rusts-
appliances last 1 year instead of 10
here-remember, you are not paying
too much...don't be expecting too
much-we are the most reasonable
home for what we offer in all of puerto
rico-please go to an expensive hotel or
resort if you are fussy-we are just a
beach house & we are not the "RITZ"-we
planning on moving there ourselves-
construction got started outside but
has been stopped due to a permit
problem-
21-when do we get our security back?
the day you move out our managers
will call me & I will mail it back that
same day-
22-do I have to clean?
you do not need to clean, but if you do
not want to I will need to deduct $100
per unit from your security (its all
given to the manager)-we would prefer
that you clean since they have full
time jobs-everything is there to make
it easy-
23-do you allow smoking?
no-there is no easy way to get rid of
the smell-if you smoke in our home
you will lose the entire security deposit-
sorry to be so strong but we had
problem guests that did not think rules
applied to them-
24-can we have a wedding or a weekend party?
no-it would pose a problem with our
neighbors-our neighbors are all quiet
& so are we-also there is not enough
parking in the area-
25-where can we park?
we have a long driveway that can fit
4 cars if needed-plus there is some
parking on the street-
26-can I bring a pet?
we used to allow that also but had
problem guests that would leave the
animal alone all day while sightseeing-
also there are different dogs (all nice)
in the neighborhood that run loose
such as bambi-
27-who is bambi?
bambi is a neighborhood dog who
loves our home-while you are there
she will watch over you-all she asks
is that you give her some scraps &
fresh water-she will even walk to the
surfer beach with you-you will love her-
28-can our relatives in san juan preview
the home before we book your home?
they of course can drive by but they
can't preview it-it would disturb the
guests & take time for the managers
to do this-as discussed, it would
appear like you were fussy & wouldn't
like our home anyway-check out the
more expensive properties-
29-when do you want the money?
at time of booking I need the security
deposit-at that time I need your
address so that I can mail you a
confirmation & info on the area-you can
pay by "paypal" on our site or by a
personal check-the balance would be
due 30 days before arrival-at that time
I will send you meeting instructions
with our managers plus a receipt-
30-why is the security deposit so high?
when you live so far away from a
property this is the only way we feel
to keep our property kept nicely-we
want our home given back in good
shape-plus this is a protection for
our future guests-if someone should
damage our home before your arrival,
it would take a long time to repair, as
things don't move fast in puerto rico-
that would ruin your vacation-we are
looking out for you, our future guest-
31-here is a list of problems
that you will not have in
puerto rico.......
(1)unsafe water-the tap water
is the same standard as
the states-it is not a "third
world country"
(2)tropical diseases-you are
as safe here as in florida-
puerto rico has been an
american commonwealth
for 100 years
(3)strange currency-puerto
rico uses united states
currency-all prices are in
US dollars
(4)required passport-no
passport for US citizens-
your drivers license &
credit cards work as ID
(5)bad hospitals-puerto rico
has completely modern
facilities-most doctors
were trained in the US-
there is a hospital a 2
minute drive away from
our house, right across
the street from a US post
office
(6)language difficulties-puerto
ricans speak spanish-most
have studied english in
school-it is especially so
in dorado because of all
the tourists in the area
(7)unfriendly behavior-puerto
ricans are very friendly,
kind & helpful-expect to be
treated well
(8)crime-on our visits, we
have experienced no
crime-always use common
sense-like, do not go to a
deserted beach after dark,
flash money or wear lots
of expensive jewelry-
dorado is a safe town-
they have pride & a strong
sense of community-it is
considered the cleanest
city on the island also
(9)nude beaches-there are
not any here-the people
are too religious for this
to happen-there are lots
of churches here
(10)bad roads-mostly all good
highways just like in the
states-here, they have toll
roads on the main ones
We were just at our home In September 2006-the Weather was beautiful as Usual-only rained 1 day (during the day)in 2 weeks-usually always Rains a little at night for Some reason-the police Are watching the entrance to mameyal (our Area) for seat belt use- Don't want any of you to Get a ticket-also we saw A huge iguana(lizard) Cross the freeway-also we saw chickens wandering around the Costco parking lot-where Else can you see such Sights but Puerto Rico? What a place!!!!!
-well thats it folks-I hope I covered any questions-if I haven't, feel free to e-mail or call us-we really want you as our future guests but we want you to be realistic in your expectations-this is the caribbean & perfection does not exist-only fun, sun & relaxation!!!!!!!
